This multi-movement work examines the relationship between humans, animals, and the environment from various perspectives. Through a series of varied and evocative imagery, the piece - which provided the impetus for the formation of the band and the thematic core of this recording - interrogates humankind's failure to properly safeguard the natural world, with a particular focus on the effects of this failure as experienced by animals. 


II. The Whale River Song

The second movement is a tragic song from the perspective of whales, specifically depicting the phenomenon of whales committing suicide by beaching themselves at the mouths of rivers and other inhospitable bodies of water. The unique intelligence and emotional capacity of whales among other species is rendered through the opening melody, which channels the lament-like song of a whale in distress trying to communicate with its loved ones.
